Storm Emergency?

A Tree Emergency Doesn’t Wait — Here’s What To Do First

A split oak, hanging limb, or uprooted pine can turn a driveway or roof into a hazard within minutes. Take these steps before anyone approaches the debris.

(855) 615-0568
  1. 1

    Stay clear of any line

If a tree or limb is touching a power line, keep people, pets, and vehicles away and call Duke Energy first. Never assume a line is dead because the power is out — a private crew cannot work until the utility makes the area safe.

  2. 2

    Move people & vehicles back

Move everyone away from the damaged tree, suspended limbs, and any lifted root plate. Do not walk under a damaged canopy or pull on a hung-up branch to get a better look.

  3. 3

    Document from a safe spot

From a safe distance, photograph the tree, roof, vehicle, fence, and driveway, and note the date and storm event. For a blocked public street or right-of-way hazard, report it to Charlotte 311 or the CLT+ app.

  4. 4

    Call for rapid triage

Call us at (855) 615-0568 and describe the line status, access problem, visible lean, and which structure is affected. We prioritize life-safety and structure-threatening hazards first.

Utility clearance comes before private tree work whenever a line may be energized. See our 24/7 emergency tree service and storm damage cleanup.

How It Works

From Your Call To A Clean Site

Every job runs the same way: honest triage, a written scope you can compare, standards-based work, and a genuine cleanup. The written scope — not a vague promise — is what protects you.

  1. 1

    Triage & hazard assessment

By phone or form we assess urgency, utilities, structures, access, and visible damage — and whether the situation is safe enough to schedule or needs an emergency response.

  2. 2

    On-site inspection

We inspect the tree and the site, read the lean and root plate, and identify whether pruning, cabling or bracing, sectional removal, full removal, or stump grinding actually fits the risk.

  3. 3

    Written scope

You get a written scope that names the tree sections, equipment, rigging, roof and driveway protection, stump depth, debris destination, permits, cleanup standard, payment milestones, and warranty limits — so you can compare it line by line.

  4. 4

    Safe, standards-based work

Crews work to ANSI A300 pruning and ANSI Z133 safety practices, with planned fall zones, ground protection for saturated clay, and controlled rigging around homes, fences, and utilities.

  5. 5

    Complete cleanup & documentation

Our grapple trucks haul every log, limb, and chip, we grind stumps to the agreed depth, and you receive an itemized invoice and photo record for your files or insurance claim.

What Changes Your Quote

A transparent estimate names each cost driver instead of hiding it inside one unexplained total. Here is what we actually look at:

  • Tree height, trunk diameter, species, lean, and decay
  • Proximity to roofs, fences, driveways, roads, and utility lines
  • Access for a chipper, bucket truck, crane, or stump grinder
  • Rigging, sectional lowering, traffic control, and ground protection
  • Stump depth, debris hauling, restoration, permits, and urgency

I had a gigantic dead, rotten silver maple cut down — shallow roots sticking up across almost half my front yard. CLT got rid of the stump and all the surrounding roots, put up protection so nothing got damaged from flying debris, cleaned up, and raked the whole area level. Very fair with pricing. Do yourself a favor and skip the second and third opinions — this is the one!

Paul removed 2 stumps on our property. From the moment I met him he was on time, gave a fair estimate, and offered to take care of calling gas, electric, and cable for the markings before the job. Showed up on the date as promised, did a great job, and was friendly, respectful, and professional. Already recommended him to my neighbors.

Everything was handled with exceptional punctuality, accuracy, and at a very reasonable price. He immediately called 811 to ensure safety, and by Friday the unsightly stump was completely removed while keeping the working area clean. A beautiful new tree was planted in its place with no root issues at all. Highly recommend.

Paul’s stump removal was fantastic — efficient grinding equipment and real focus on protecting the surrounding bushes and plants. He asked what was going to be planted in that spot so he could determine how deep to grind. All roots were eliminated so we can plant a Japanese Maple in its place.

Paul and team did a fantastic job getting my yard back in order after a troublesome maple was removed. They ground up the stump and an enormous tangle of roots, leaving the space perfectly ready to prep for new grass. I highly recommend CLT Grapple and Stump Grinding.

Questions & Answers

Charlotte Tree Service FAQs

We dispatch from Charlotte and serve all of Mecklenburg County plus Matthews, Pineville, Mint Hill, Huntersville, Cornelius, Concord, Gastonia, Indian Trail, Weddington, Lake Norman communities, and dozens of towns across North Carolina. Call (855) 615-0568 to confirm coverage for your address.

Yes. CLT Grapple and Stump Grinding Services is fully licensed and insured, and we provide certificates of insurance on request. That protects you and your property, which matters most after a storm when uninsured, out-of-town crews often appear.

Yes. Our emergency line is answered around the clock, every day of the year. For fallen trees, storm damage, or hazards threatening people or structures, call (855) 615-0568 right away for immediate dispatch and safety guidance.

Keep people and pets away, do not cut or approach the tree, and contact Duke Energy first. A private crew should not work near the line until the utility makes the area safe. Once it is clear, we handle the removal and cleanup.

Planning benchmarks place removal under 30 feet at $200–$600, 30–60 feet at $600–$1,800, and over 60 feet at $1,800–$4,500, with emergency work reported at $400–$9,000. These are estimates, not guaranteed quotes — the written price depends on height, diameter, lean, structures, utilities, access, equipment, urgency, hauling, and cleanup.

A common planning benchmark is $100–$400 per stump, with some guides pricing by size at roughly $3–$5 per inch of diameter. Large stumps can reach $400–$600, and full stump removal is often benchmarked at $250–$800. Confirm the measurement method, grinding depth, chips, hauling, backfill, and restoration — these are estimates, not guaranteed prices.

It depends on your policy, the cause of loss, deductible, exclusions, and whether covered property was damaged — so no honest crew can promise approval. Coverage is more likely when a tree damages a covered structure such as your home, garage, or fence. Photograph the scene from a safe location, contact your insurer promptly, preserve the claim number, and ask us for an itemized invoice to support the claim.

A grapple truck loads logs and brush mechanically with a hydraulic boom, handling far more volume than a dumpster and clearing jobs in hours instead of days. It reaches over fences and landscaping, and there is no hand-loading — which is why it saves both time and money on tree waste.

Sometimes. Charlotte protects public and street-right-of-way trees, Heritage Trees, certain private trees, and tree-save areas, though not every private-property tree carries the same requirement. Ask Charlotte Urban Forestry before scheduling, especially for development work under UDO Article 20 — we can help you navigate it.

Request two or three written quotes when the hazard allows and compare the same line items side by side: the exact tree sections, equipment, rigging, structure and driveway protection, stump depth, debris hauling, permits, cleanup standard, payment milestones, and warranty limits — plus current insurance certificates and any named credential. A transparent scope lets you compare quotes without decoding vague phrases like “complete service.”

TRAQ stands for Tree Risk Assessment Qualification. It helps a named individual evaluate a tree’s condition, likelihood of failure, the targets it could hit, and the consequences. It does not mean every employee is qualified, and it does not guarantee a tree will never fail — so verify the individual credential and the scope of the assessment.

From a safe location, take wide photos of the overall scene and close photos of any covered-property damage, and record the date, weather event, location, and what was affected. Never approach a live line, suspended limb, unstable root plate, or damaged canopy for a closer image — documentation does not make an unsafe inspection safe.

Yes. We provide free, no-obligation written estimates for non-emergency work, with clear line items for removal, stump grinding, debris hauling, and cleanup so you know exactly what is included. Call (855) 615-0568 or request a quote online.
